Numerous residents of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, have flocked to the site of a deadly explosion that rocked the ancient city on Tuesday night. The blast, which claimed two lives and injured 77 others, occurred at a private residence at Dejo Oyelese Close in Bodija Housing Estate, where illegal miners allegedly stored explosive devices.
According to Daily Post, only a few people were permitted to enter the close, but many curious residents gathered at the entrance to witness the aftermath of the explosion. Rescue operations have been underway since the incident, with first responders and relevant agencies deployed by the state government.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who visited the scene on Wednesday morning, said the explosion was caused by the negligence of the illegal miners, who endangered the lives and properties of the people in the vicinity. He revealed that the security agencies’ first investigations revealed that ” unauthorized miners residing in one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices, resulting in the blast. ”
