In anticipation of the 54th anniversary of the Biafra war, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, a prominent figure within the Ohanaeze Ndigbo sociocultural organization, has issued a compelling call to Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Isiguzoro urges Tinubu to play a pivotal role in putting an end to hostilities against the Igbo people, advocating for a comprehensive approach encompassing reconstruction, reconciliation, and rehabilitation. Additionally, he emphasizes the significance of opening up the Eastern Corridor to stimulate economic development and emancipate the old Eastern region from its historical challenges.
In a statement bearing his signature, Isiguzoro underscores the enduring persecution and economic constraints faced by the Ndigbo community. He attributes these challenges to the historical neglect of the old Eastern region by past federal administrations, resulting in a persistent disparity in resource allocation.
Isiguzoro draws attention to the stark contrast, noting that while other regions have reaped the benefits of central support, the Southeast has consistently experienced marginalization. This historical injustice, according to him, has hindered the region’ s rightful access to resources and impeded its overall development.
Furthermore, Isiguzoro reminds Tinubu of the unmet demand for reparation fees made by Igbo leaders during the tenures of ex- President Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Musa Yar’ Adua. The failure of the Federal Government to address this issue perpetuates the socio- economic challenges faced by the Igbo community.
