Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, has expressed his support for the recent decision by the apex bank to relocate certain departments to its Lagos office. The move is aimed at alleviating overcrowding at the CBN’ s headquarters in Abuja, as highlighted in a circular issued on January 12th. The circular emphasized concerns about exceeding occupancy levels and potential health and safety issues.
Under this plan, the CBN intends to relocate 1, 533 staff members to other facilities in Abuja, Lagos, and branches currently facing understaffing. While this decision has sparked concerns among some employees who fear it might render the Abuja office ” useless, ” Moghalu sees no serious basis for such disquiet.
In a post on his X handle, Moghalu acknowledged that the Lagos office, established 12 years ago during his tenure at the CBN, has not been fully utilized. Hence, relocating certain departments to address the issue of overstaffing in Abuja seems like a reasonable and rational solution.
