Tinubu Under Fire, Urged To Sack Betta Edu IMMEDIATELY Over Alleged Corruption, See Details! !
In a recent development, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu. The call comes in light of an ongoing investigation into a staggering N44. 8 billion fraud in the National Social Investment Programme (NSIPA), implicating the minister in alleged financial misappropriation.
HURIWA, in a statement released on Saturday, emphasized the need for Edu to resign from her ministerial position and subject herself to questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The advocacy group pointed out the gravity of the situation, highlighting the violation of public sector financial regulations established in 2009, which explicitly prohibits the transfer of public funds to private individuals’ accounts.
The focal point of concern revolves around the revelation that Edu purportedly deposited public funds into a private individual’ s bank account. HURIWA underscored the significance of adhering to established financial regulations, expressing its dismay over the possibility of a government official being involved in such a breach.
Moreover, the group drew attention to the potential twofold standard that would arise if the president failed to take action against his representative heading the social investment coordinating office. Allegations suggest that over N34 billion of public funds was transferred into private accounts, prompting HURIWA to question the integrity of the government’ s commitment to anti- graft measures.
