REVEALED – Full List of Likely Persons to emerge as Ondo State Deputy Governor emerges
Less than 48hrs after Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Ayedatíwa was sworn-in as the executive Governor of the state following the demise of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, it was gathered that politicians in the state have commenced permutation to occupy the Deputy Governorship position.
A top government source hinted that plans were afoot to pick a Deputy Governor that would pilot the affairs of the state with Aiyedatiwa till 2025.
However, the source noted that “Aiyedatiwa never expected the death of his boss. Since it came as a rude shock to him, he had to accept the mantle and the issue of Deputy is seriously of huge concern”.
The anonymous source familiar with plans unfolding in the government circle, noted that Aiyedatiwa is puzzled over the person who will emerge as his Deputy.
Another source who craved anonymity disclosed to that some people from Owo, the hometown of late Akeredolu are hoping for the slot so as to pacify people from the extraction who are currently bereaved over the death of the former Governor.
He said, “Owo people are seriously hoping. In fact, some Politicians in that area are rooting for a former Gubernatorial Aspirant, Jamiu Ekungba, to be the next Deputy Governor. But Owo is not united as another set of political thinkers opined that Jumoke Ajasin who was also a former gubernatorial aspirant will give the area quality representation due to her calmness and maturity.”
“It is confusing because the tradition doesn’t even favour Ondo North because once we have a Southern Governor, it is a norm for the Deputy to come from Ondo Central Senatorial District.”
“With this, the tide may swing to Baba Fasoranti’s son popularly known as Fash. This is because Baba alongside other leaders meddled into the political crisis rocking the state before Akeredolu died. It’s also a known fact that the body language of the President matters and Tinubu loves Baba Fasoranti to the heart. It is believed that Aiyedatiwa’s gubernatorial ambition will be easier considering Baba as a factor whose opinion would be respected by the president,” the source added.
Conversely, some analysts forecasted that the Governor might pick his deputy from the Central Senatorial which implies that the Speakership seat will return to the Northern District.
Findings revealed that a former Federal Lawmker Alade Mayorkun (Ondo Central), Olumuyiwa Adu (Ondo Central), Bunmi Ademosu and a former State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ondo State, Hon (Princess) Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole are among the people eyeing the second exalted seat in the state.
But a source who strongly hinted at Starnews NG noted that Aiyedatiwa might go for Rasaq Obe, a member of the cabinet seemingly loyal to him.
Rasaq Obe, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, came to limelight after his huge revelation on the forgery of late Akeredolu’s signature while he was battling with survival.
Obe, had in a letter dated December 7 and addressed to Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the then deputy governor, explaining that the irregularities were first noticed when a file from his ministry, out of the five submitted to the governor’s office for approval, was returned.
For Obe to have exhibited courage to raise the alarm in the light of political crisis in the state, it was learnt that he might be compensated with the deputy governorship position for his courageous move.
