ANOTHER Calamity ! After Killing 195 Innocent Civilians On Xmas, Heartless Gunmen Return With Brutal Attacks, Destroying Many Houses
In a disturbing escalation of violence in Plateau State, armed groups targeted the Budel community in Tangur district, Bokkos Local Government Area, just days after a series of attacks unfolded in the region between Saturday evening and Tuesday morning. The Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos, Monday Kassah, revealed that marauders struck the community on Thursday night, unleashing a wave of destruction that included the burning and demolition of homes.
Kassah, emphasizing the gravity of the situation, reported that swift intervention by security personnel prevented any loss of life. Providing an update on the Christmas Day attacks, he stated that the number of casualties remained at 195, with ongoing rescue operations aimed at locating missing individuals.
Of the recorded casualties, 148 occurred in the Bokkos Local Government Area, 19 in the Mangu Local Government Area, and 27 in Barkin Ladi. The extent of property damage was also substantial, with 1, 290 houses destroyed in Bokkos council, one in Mangu LGA, and an undetermined number in Barkin Ladi at the time of the report.
The Christmas Day attacks, originating in the Bokkos area, spilled over into neighboring Barkin Ladi, where an additional 30 fatalities were reported, according to local chairman Danjuma Dakil. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the violence, denouncing it as ” barbaric, brutal, and unjustified. ” Gyang Bere, the governor’ s spokesperson, assured that the government would take proactive measures to quell the ongoing attacks against innocent civilians.
