In an unexpected incident, Ogun State Police Command reported the arrest of a young man known only as Okereke who allegedly stabbed his friend, Ibere Okorie, to death during an argument over a woman.

The tragic incident occurred when both of them were going out on a business trip from Ijebu- Ode to Niger State. The two friends, after a tiring journey, decided to stay at a hotel in Mokwa, where an altercation broke out over a woman they were both involved with.
During the heated argument, Okereke reportedly used a piece of broken glass to stab Okorie in the stomach before fleeing the scene. Okorie was rushed to a private hospital in Mokwa, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to an undisclosed hospital in Lagos State.

Tragically, Okorie was pronounced dead at Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital in Ile- Ife on December 13, 2023. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, confirmed the detention of the suspect, affirming that the investigation is ongoing.
The suspect is currently in custody, and the deceased’ s body has been deposited at the morgue.
The police are working to gather evidence and statements from all parties involved in the incident.
