In a thought- provoking address at the Bauchi State University, Gadau, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, has emphatically advocated for the urgent restructuring of Nigeria’ s political landscape before the 2027 general elections. Jega, a respected figure in the nation’ s electoral history, highlighted the necessity of devolving power to sub- national entities as a crucial step toward national development.
The core of Jega’ s argument revolves around his assertion that the current presidential system in Nigeria is fundamentally flawed, attributing the dysfunction to an excessive concentration of power in the hands of the president.
