Nnamdi Kanu: Ohanaeze Shock Nigerians Release POWERFUL Statement Over Supreme Court Ruling
In response to the recent Supreme Court decision declining to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo socio- cultural organization, issued a statement on Friday urging calm and the maintenance of peace among Ndigbo both at home and in the diaspora. The organization’ s Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, emphasized the temporary nature of Kanu’ s non- release, urging against resorting to violence in the face of this setback.
Isiguzoro urged Ndigbo to unite, setting aside political differences, and actively seek political solutions for Kanu’ s release. He pointed out that certain Igbo individuals, including governors, had previously prayed against Kanu’ s release, raising concerns about insincere efforts within some political circles. Isiguzoro challenged Southeast governors and those implicated to clarify their stance with IPOB, distancing Ohanaeze Ndigbo from any involvement in actions benefiting from Kanu’ s continued detention.
Expressing disapproval of such developments, Ohanaeze Ndigbo underscored that hope was not lost, encouraging Ndigbo and Biafra agitators to maintain composure. The Supreme Court, while acknowledging shortcomings in Kanu’ s arrest process, called for his trial to proceed, presenting a new opportunity for Igbo leaders to engage with the federal government. Simultaneously, Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasized the imperative for the federal government to address issues of Igbo marginalization and work towards reorienting victims of systematic marginalization in the Southeast, factors contributing to the Biafra agitation.
