As a build-up to the bye-election for the membership of the House of Representatives, Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency, the apex body of the All Progressive Congress(APC) at Akoko North-East Local Government gathered at the at the Party Secretariat, Ikare-Akoko on Thursday, 14th December, 2023 to play host to the legal luminary and leading aspirant , Dr. Olumuyiwa Olusa .
While addressing the gathering, Dr Olusa sought the total support of the Executives by highlighting the benefits of nominating an experienced politician, a steady and committed party faithful, a welfarist and people-oriented person and a legislative drafter, who will improve upon the legacies of the immediate predecessor, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
While identifying with the successes recorded by the immediate past representative Hon Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, Dr Muyiwa Olusa started that, if elected, the next three years of representation in the 10th Assembly shall spiral development across the Federal Constituency because of his wide-acceptability and ability to work with other stakeholders. Noting that, equity shall be his watchword, he added that his tenure shall be transformational to the youths, women, educational and all vital sectors.
Olusa emphasises his commitment to increasing job and wealth creation by lifting 100 tech specialists and establishing them to be employees of labour. He maintained that efforts will be made to track unemployment in order to facilitate job creation and career opportunities in skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled human capacity development.
He maintains that the health sector shall also be prioritized in his cardinal programme; primary health care will be supported with the state of art equipment and facilities, drugs shall be subsidised and medical experts will be deliberately attracted to reduce the hazards experienced in medical practices.
Dr. Olusa recalled that agriculture used to be the bedrock of the Akoko economy. In line with the renewed Hope Agenda of APC, he started that more grants and sustainable development resources will be facilitated to inject into agriculture in Federal Constituency thereby enhancing food security and achieving sustainable domestic income and development in both local governments.
Dr. Muyiwa Olusa reiterated the need for quality representation and appealed to the apex body to consider his sacrifices and commitments since 2019 till date, assuring that, if given the opportunity to represent his people in the House of Representatives, he will set his own strides of achievements where Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo stopped.
Appealing to the apex body of the APC in Akoko North East Local Government, Dr Olusa, admonishes executive to consider him as representing the general interest of Akoko, stating that he shall be fair to all, he added “our attitude towards the bye election is to prioritize Akoko as one and everyone should THINK AKOKO first and assess the qualities of aspirants, objectively and meritoriously before making a choice of vote”
Responding, the APC local government party chieftain, Imam Saliu Mumuni commended the commitment and sacrifices of Dr. Muyiwa Olusa to the party. He extolled his issue-based consultation methods. Noting that the profile, experience and pedigree of Dr. Olusa qualified him for any elective position in any party, yet he remained committed to the APC, he emphasized that Dr Olusa”s commitment to the APC’s ideals , perseverance and endurance since running for the office of the Federal House of Representatives as far back in 2019 had set him apart as “the trademark of a truly progressive and patriotic politician, ” emphasizing that he is a worthy candidate to represent the people of Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency.
The APC Chairman further stated that the mandate to get the right candidate to represent the Federal Constituency is a collective effort of both the State and National body of the All Progressives Congress Party, as the National body is yet to communicate the date and modus operandi for nominating a suitable candidate to serve the best interest of Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Federal Constituency.
However, the Chairman drummed support for Dr. Muyiwa Olusa’s ambition and singled him out as an outstanding aspirant with much wealth of political experience, brilliant leadership skills, excellent profile and qualitative manifesto that will impact positively on the overall development of the Federal Constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the executives, the Chairman solicits the total support of Akoko North-East Local Government Forum of Leaders and Elders, youth leaders, women leaders, caucus of chairmen and various interest groups in identifying and promoting the emergence of a Dr Olusa as the next candidate of the All Progressives Congress Party in the bye-election.
In his comment, Hon Sikiru Ogbeda extolled Dr Olusa’s manifesto. He expressed his confidence in the aspirant as a man of proven-integrity, noting that the educational sector is a paramount factor in societal and human capital development which should be prioritized as contained in his manifesto.
The local government woman leader, Mrs Lasis Labake prayed that God would lead the aspirant to victory and equally solicited for implementation gender- friendly programmes when he realizes his victory.
In a closing remark, the Chairman of the APC party apex body in Akoko North-East singled out Dr Muyiwa Olusa as an experienced politician, a grass-root politician, and a legislative drafter with a refined knowledge and leadership representation who will enjoy all maximum support of his executives going forward with this campaign to secure victory in the bye-election.
The meeting which was anchored by the Akoko North-East APC Local Government Party Chairman, Imam Saliu Mumuni Olanrewaju, had in attendance High Chief Ofua of Ikare Akoko, Vice Chairman APC Akoko North East LGA, Useni Muyideen, Local Government Women Leader, Mrs Lasisi Labake, Local Government Treasurer, Saliu Kafayat and other key executives of the local government.
