Biafra’ s resistance forces claimed to have killed many Nigerian soldiers in a fierce battle that erupted recently. The fight was part of a defensive operation against alleged terrorist elements from Nigeria, according to Simon Ekpa, the self- proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Liberation Movement.
Ekpa announced the outcome of the clash on Twitter, saying that the Biafra resistance fighters had successfully defended the 40 United States of Biafra and neutralized every Islamic State of Nigeria terrorist in uniform within Biafra land, and beyond. He accused the Nigerian Army of being terrorists who came to kill Biafrans as usual.
The Nigerian Army has not yet confirmed or denied the casualties or the details of the confrontation. However, sources from the federal government said that the army was conducting a routine patrol in the south- eastern region when they encountered the armed men.
The clash is the latest episode in the long- running conflict between Biafra and Nigeria, which dates back to the 1960s, when Biafra declared its independence from Nigeria following massacres of south- easterners in northern Nigeria. The secessionist bid was crushed by the Nigerian federal forces after a bloody three- year civil war that resulted in more than a million deaths.
