Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Killed Mother, Sister In Enugu
The Enugu State Police Command has verified the apprehension of a young man, Somadina Orji, accused of murdering his mother, Mrs. Charity Orji, and sister, Miss Ukamaka Orji.
The victims were allegedly buried in a shallow grave in their backyard in Umuagu Inyi, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident occurred on December 4, 2023, and the suspect, hailing from Igboariam in Anambra State, reportedly had a history of conflict with his mother, who had been living with her children in their family house for some years. Somadina, allegedly involved in drug dealing, was said to have escalated the disagreement to a fatal extent.

According to reports, the trouble began when the suspect had a dispute with his younger brother weeks prior. The mother intervened, reporting the incident to the community leaders and seeking their assistance in removing Somadina from the house. The conflict further escalated, leading to the tragic events.
The community leader, Mr. Ben Obi, explained that the mother, Charity, had gone for a condolence visit and was killed by Somadina upon her return. The younger brother, noticing the mother’s absence, raised an alarm, bringing attention to the tragic incident.
“When the villagers gathered at the compound upon interrogation, Somadina confessed that he had killed the mother.”
The suspect confessed to killing his younger sister several weeks ago as well. Barrister Ben revealed that when the police were called, they exhumed the remains of both the mother and sister, depositing them at the mortuary. The suspect was subsequently apprehended.
Charity, the deceased mother, was identified as the sole breadwinner, selling fufu to support her family. Barrister Ben urged the government to intervene to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Coordinating President General in Oji River, Mr. Ejike Tasie, expressed concern about the rampant use of hard drugs in the Inyi Community. He called on the anti-drug agency in Oji River to address and curb drug abuse in their local communities.
The Enugu State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that the suspect had been arrested. An ongoing investigation will precede the suspect’s court arraignment once concluded.
“The suspect has been arrested, and the case is under investigation. The suspect would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.”
