Bandits demand N70 million after collecting N30 Million ransom from parents of abducted NYSC members
In a very distressing situation, the families of the young people from Akwa Ibom State who were supposed to join the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and got kidnapped on August 17, 2023, while on their way to the orientation camp in Sokoto State, are going through a really tough time.
The people who kidnapped them are asking for a lot of money to let them go, and this is causing a lot of pain and worry for the families. Mr. Mfon Friday, who is part of the affected families, shared that the kidnappers are asking for a huge amount, specifically N30.8 million, as ransom.
He expressed his frustration and concern, telling about how the parents are facing the difficult situation of dealing with the demands of the kidnappers.
Even though they have already paid a significant amount, N30.8 million in total, including a previous payment of N17.2 million and an extra N13.6 million, the kidnappers haven’t released the victims.
Mr. Friday sadly shared that their children, along with the driver of the bus they were in, are still in the Zamfara bush, and it’s been more than 100 days since they were kidnapped.
The kidnappers have recently asked for another N70 million, and they’re threatening severe consequences if this amount isn’t paid quickly.
There’s a source within the affected families who spoke anonymously, revealing that the female victims who were released last month are seriously ill, and the remaining seven captives are reportedly also unwell.
The kidnappers seem to be demanding a large ransom because of the sickness of the young people, making the families even more worried about their safety.
Because of the desperation of the families, they are reaching out for urgent help from the government, caring citizens, and the public in general.
A sibling of one of the victims, who spoke in confidence after a meeting in Uyo, shared that the kidnappers were paid N17.2 million before they released the female victims last month because they were seriously sick.
The sibling expressed deep concern, saying that they’ve heard that the remaining seven victims are also very sick.
This is why the kidnappers are asking for a huge ransom and threatening that if it’s not paid soon, something terrible might happen to the kidnapped young people.
The sibling shared their fear, emphasizing that they don’t want their sister to die, especially considering they are orphans who struggled to go to school.
The families are feeling frustrated and anxious because there hasn’t been quick action to rescue these young graduates.
This has led to calls for immediate assistance to prevent a tragic outcome.
The situation is dire, and the families are pleading for help to bring their loved ones back safely.
