*Governor Operates from Private Residence, Leaving Multi-billion Naira Government House Unused*
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reportedly abandoned the newly constructed multi-billion naira Government House in Umuahia, choosing to run the government from his country home. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Otti the winner of the governorship election on March 22, and since his assumption of office about six months ago, he has allegedly not utilized the state-of-the-art Government House commissioned by the previous administration. The governor justifies this decision, citing the dilapidated condition of the old Government House and prioritizing other critical needs over its renovation.
Meanwhile, the state government incurs additional expenses as officials travel regularly to conduct State Executive Council meetings at the governor’s private residence, raising concerns about financial prudence and official document security.
