JUST IN: Aguero reveals EPL club he would have joined instead of Man City
Former Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero has admitted he wanted to join Liverpool when he was a youngster.
According to Aguero, he looked up to Michael Owen when he was a teenager.
He told Stake: “I used to like Liverpool when I was younger because of Owen, who had also started as a teenager.
“Even when I was playing on my Playstation, I tried to play like Owen!”
Aguero joined Argentine club side Independiente when only 15, before moving to Atletico Madrid as an 18-year-old in a deal worth over £17million.
He would later become a key member of a City side who endured some epic title battles with Liverpool.
The 35-year-old, who was forced to retire in December 2021 after being diagnosed with a heart condition, does not know why he never signed for Liverpool.
He added: “I wouldn’t know, really.
“I’ve read that they didn’t go out for an offer because I was very young and it seemed like a risky bet for the transfer cost.”
