JUST IN: Oyo State Government Cracks Down on Substandard Primary Schools( Details)
The Oyo State government is taking decisive action to improve the quality of primary education by shutting down substandard “mushroom” primary schools in the state. The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Soliu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, has declared that such schools will not be permitted to operate in Oyo.
In a meeting with basic education stakeholders, Professor Adelabu outlined the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of primary education in the state. He emphasized the importance of working closely with Education Secretaries, and Heads of Sections in all 33 local government areas to identify and close substandard primary schools.
Professor Adelabu expressed his dissatisfaction with the results of a recent inspection, acknowledging the need to address basic errors in the basic education sub-sector. He called on relevant stakeholders to intensify their efforts in supervising the schools under their responsibility.
Furthermore, the Commissioner highlighted the Oyo State government’s commitment to addressing infrastructural decay in primary schools. Governor Seyi Makinde has instructed the Ministry to identify schools in urgent need of infrastructural improvements, demonstrating the government’s determination to provide quality education for all children in the state.
Professor Adelabu concluded by emphasizing that while the government is striving to ensure that every school-age child receives an education, the commitment to quality and standards in education will not be compromised. This move signifies a concerted effort by Oyo State to enhance the primary education system and ensure that every child receives a quality education.
