Muhammadu Ali, a resident of Damaiwa village in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, met a devastating end when he embarked on a charm testing venture. The fatal event occurred during a test to determine if a protective charm could safeguard him from gunshots.
In the ill-fated experiment, a locally-made gun was fired at Muhammadu Ali to assess the effectiveness of the charm. Unfortunately, the charm failed, and the gunshot resulted in his tragic death. The incident underscores the risks associated with superstitious practices and the tragic consequences that can follow.
The Bauchi State Police Command swiftly responded to the situation upon receiving information about the incident. They took Muhammadu Ali to the hospital, but medical professionals declared him dead. The police also initiated an investigation and apprehended two suspects linked to the incident. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the tragedy, who managed to escape.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, decried the act of mob justice in the community and emphasized the importance of adhering to the law and due process. He warned against taking the law into one’s own hands, stating that suspects apprehended in connection with crimes should be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.
In a separate incident, the Bauchi State Police Command responded to an armed robbery at Bishop Moore Memorial School Staff Quarters, which belongs to the Bauchi Catholic Diocese. This incident, occurring on November 4, 2023, saw a mob kill one of the suspects involved in the robbery. CP Auwal Musa Muhammad expressed strong disapproval of the mob’s actions, stating that it was a barbaric and unlawful act. He asserted that the police would not tolerate individuals taking the law into their own hands and called for adherence to due process and the rule of law.
The suspects involved in the armed robbery at the school staff quarters have been identified and arrested. They specialized in breaking into students’ compounds during the night, wielding dangerous weapons. Detectives recovered various items, including two machetes, 18 mobile phones, two laptops, and three MP3 players, from the suspects.
Both investigations into these incidents are ongoing, with the aim of arresting any additional accomplices and ensuring that the suspects face prosecution in court.
