Gynecologist Advises on Managing Erectile Dysfunction
Dr. Ayodele Ademola, a consultant Gynaecologist and the Medical Director of Strong Tower Hospital and Advanced Fertility Centre in Lagos, has shared valuable insights into managing erectile dysfunction (ED). He emphasized that diet and lifestyle play significant roles in the onset and management of this condition.
According to Dr. Ademola, individuals with ED should be mindful of their dietary choices, as certain foods and lifestyle factors can contribute to potency problems. One of the well-recognized causes of ED is diabetes, and foods that can lead to diabetes may also contribute to potency problems.
Moreover, diets high in saturated fats are linked to heart disease, and men with heart disease have a higher likelihood of experiencing erectile dysfunction. Dr. Ademola underlined the importance of considering diet and lifestyle in preventing and managing ED, as unhealthy habits can lead to conditions that increase the risk of erectile dysfunction.
Erectile dysfunction is a prevalent medical disorder that is becoming more common worldwide. It is estimated that by the year 2025, there will be approximately 322 million cases of ED globally.
Dr. Ademola addressed a common misconception by clarifying that the consumption of sugary and sweet foods does not directly cause erectile dysfunction, unless it leads to diabetes. He highlighted that obesity and diabetes are key risk factors for ED and that unhealthy eating habits can contribute to these conditions.
To address the issue of erectile dysfunction, Dr. Ademola recommended raising awareness about its prevalence, so those affected do not become unduly worried. He also emphasized that managing diabetes and reducing stress and anxiety are essential in addressing impotence.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, a balanced and nutritious diet, weight management, limited alcohol consumption, and abstaining from tobacco use can reduce the risk of developing conditions like obesity and cardiovascular diseases that are linked to erectile dysfunction. In conclusion, Dr. Ademola encouraged individuals to adopt these healthy habits to enhance overall well-being and reduce the risk of ED.
