BREAKING : Former Chief of Army staff reveled the origin of Insecurity In Nigeria
During the 2023 National Public Service Lecture and the 65th anniversary of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Tukur Buratai revealed that the current insecurity in Nigeria is a result of decisions made by the political class. He gave a lecture titled “Public Service and the Imperatives for National Security in Nigeria” and criticized those who called for his removal from office during his tenure, attributing such demands to personal biases rather than an objective assessment of his performance.
Buratai emphasized that the insecurity faced in Nigeria since 2009 was created by the political class and that the security challenges were not initiated by the service chiefs. He urged politicians, public servants, and civil servants to uphold the highest standards of integrity and fight against corruption, which has plagued the country’s political landscape for decades. He pointed out that corruption diverts resources from crucial services, leading to disenchantment among citizens, and advised politicians to demonstrate accountability and transparency in their actions and decisions.
The Chairman for the event, former Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police Adejobi Akinade, called on the public to support the police force in addressing security challenges in the nation.
The President of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Worldwide, Prof. Saawua Gabriel Nyityo, stated that the purpose of the lecture was to highlight the role of public service in safeguarding national security.
