Just In: Wike Defends Impeachment as Constitutional Process in Rivers Political Crisis
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), addressed the People Democratic Party (PDP) governors regarding the impeachment proceedings in Rivers State. During a courtesy visit led by Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Wike defended impeachment moves, emphasizing their constitutional validity. The visiting delegation included Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
Wike, who previously supported the emergence of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, stated that impeachment proceedings are a constitutional process and not equivalent to a military coup. He refuted rumors about financial interests in Rivers State and emphasized his commitment to preserving the state’s political structure.
The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum expressed gratitude to Wike for his willingness to address the issues and highlighted the importance of Rivers in this context.
