Tragic Incident: 14-Year-Old Housemaid’s Alleged Involvement in the Death of FUT Minna Lecturer
Niger State Police have arrested 14-year-old Joy Afekafez for allegedly killing Dr. Mrs. Funmilola Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna. Joy was working as a housemaid for the victim.
The incident occurred at the woman’s residence in the Gbaiko Area of Minna on Sunday. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, Joy was apprehended on Monday around 9:00 pm in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the culpable homicide.
Abiodun explained that during questioning, Joy confessed to working as a housemaid for the woman for about three weeks before being dismissed due to misconduct.
After her dismissal, she reportedly met with her classmates, Walex and Smart, and shared the details of the incident. Together, they planned an attack on the woman at her home.
The statement indicated, “They went to the woman’s house on Saturday around 4 pm on a motorcycle. Joy was at the gate, and the woman opened the gate for her. Walex and Smart entered, assaulted the woman, struck her on the head with a stool, and stabbed her with a knife carried by Walex. Smart also retrieved another knife from the kitchen and continued to stab her.”
“She stated that they took the woman’s phone, laptop, and a battery from a vehicle in the compound before fleeing.”
PPRO further explained that on Sunday, some of the woman’s friends and church members visited her at her residence in the Gbaiko Area of Minna because they were unable to reach her by phone.
